Hair Extensions

North West. Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire

The results that can be achieved with hair extensions are endless. Longer, thicker, fuller hair; highlights; lowlights; even fantasy colours.

Highlights can take less time than it takes for the chemical process - without the damage that the chemicals cause.

The hair that we use is very good quality and comes from Europe and Asia. The hair blends extremely well with the natural hair both in colour and texture. The hair can be re-used so you don’t have to buy new hair every time your hair is maintained.

Braid Weaving

The technique we use at Extra Length is Braid Weaving. Braid Weaving is a permanent technique that can be worn indefinitely.

First the hair is plaited horizontally to the scalp and then wefts (rows) of hair are sewn onto the plaits. There are usually three rows, but sometimes four rows, depending on the length of the natural hair.

The plaits are small and narrow and get covered by the hair. They are also re-enforced with human hair to make them more secure. This technique is not damaging to the hair and looks totally natural.

As the hair grows, the plait will become looser and so will need tightening after about 6 – 8 weeks depending on how fast your natural hair grows. To tighten, each row is removed and replaced.

These pictures show what the plait that the weave is attached to looks like, and how the hair looks when it has been sewn in.

Weaves look more subtle than bonded extensions as there is nothing really to see. Weaving is also cheaper because the process is not as time consuming as bonded extensions.

Weaves give more fullness than bonded extensions and will not fall out like bonds can. They are also thought to be better for the hair than bonded extensions.

Caring for your Weave

WASHING WEAVES

When wearing a weave the hair can be washed and conditioned as normal - just take extra care when doing around the tracks (plaits) so that you don’t put too much stress on them as this can cause them to loosen.

Always thoroughly rinse around the tracks to ensure all shampoo and conditioner traces are gone as it is easy to miss some and if it is left in it can cause itching and a flaky effect.

DRYING WEAVES

Take care when drying the hair. Pulling downwards will put stress on the hair and the tracks and cause looseness and possible breakage. The best way to dry the hair is to just blow over it with the hairdryer without using a brush or styling aid.

Bear in mind that the tracks (plaits) will take a little longer to dry than the rest of the hair. Once the hair is dry straighteners can be used to style as usual.

BRUSHING

Brush as usual just remember to take care around the tracks.
